The UC Santa Cruz Police Department has received two reports today regarding a suspicious person reported to be carrying a large knife or machete in the wooded  area located in the northern remote part of the campus between Chinquapin and Twin Gates. The subject has been described as being an unknown race adult male, medium height, 20 to 30 years of age, last seen wearing a hoodie type sweat shirt. The subject was seen in the morning  and later this afternoon hours carrying the large knife or machete by his side. Although the subject has not threatened anyone with the knife, extreme caution should be used when traveling through the above listed areas. If the subject is seen or encountered in the future, please avoid contact and notify the UC Santa Cruz Police Department by dialing 911.

- If you feel you or others are in danger, immediately call 911.

- Immediately report all crimes, suspicious people, activity orinformation to the UC Santa Cruz Police Department.

- Be alert to your surroundings. Your actions can help prevent othersfrom becoming victims. Attempt to keep a safe distance from strangers.

- Trust your instincts. If something or someone makes you uneasy, tellsomeone, avoid the person or leave the area.  Encourage friends to travelin pairs or with trusted companions, especially at night or in remoteareas.
