With sadness we write to inform you of the death of Bruce Picano, a 3rd year graduate student in the Visual Studies Ph.D. program.

Bruce's research focused on the relationship between nation building and collecting the indigenous past in early twentieth-century Peru. He was especially interested in painted ceramics from the Moche culture of Peru's north coast.

Bruce worked as a teaching assistant for the History of Art & Visual Culture department and had been a resident assistant for a year and a half in graduate student housing. His students found him to be genuine, caring, understanding and approachable.

Our deepest condolences go out to Bruce's family and friends. A memorial service will be held on Friday, April 11 at 12:00 pm at Custer Christiansen Mortuary, 124 Citrus Avenue, Covina CA 91723.

Family members are raising money to pay for his memorial service. To donate visit: http://www.gofundme.com/825gps
