Appointment of Associate Vice Chancellor for Research

To: UCSC Staff and Faculty

From: Appointment of Associate Vice Chancellor for Research

I am delighted to announce the appointment of Quentin Williams, professor of Earth and Planetary Sciences, as associate vice chancellor for research with primary responsibility for our academic relationship with NASA.

About 160 UCSC employees work on and support NASA science projects through our University Affiliated Research Center (UARC), a 10-year, $300 million contract, currently in its final year. The campus is currently competing to continue this relationship through NASA Academic Mission Support (NAMS), a five-year, $250 million contract that will support more academic research and greater faculty and student engagement.

Quentin, who joined the faculty in 1988, brings deep knowledge of NASA and a wealth of enthusiasm to the Office of Research. Please join me in welcoming him to this new role.
