The UC Santa Cruz Arts Division will present a celebration of the life and work of the late professor Fredric Lieberman on Saturday, January 25, beginning at 2 p.m. at UCSC's Musical Center Recital Hall.

In a long, colorful, and distinguished career, he helped to shape the understanding of American popular music in the 20th century and left his mark on the scholarship of Asian ethnomusicology.

Lieberman's curricular depth included a course on the music of the Grateful Dead, and thanks to his close and longstanding friendship with members of the influential band, UCSC's McHenry Library was chosen as the home of the Grateful Dead's historical archives in 2008.

Saturday's memorial celebration willl include music and remembrances from family, faculty, and friends.

Admission is free, and the public is invited.

However, tickets are required and can be obtained in person or by phone at the UCSC Ticket Office, 831-459-2159, or at santacruztickets.com.
