Appointment of Henry Salameh as Director, Physical Plant

To: UCSC Staff and Faculty

From: Sarah Latham, Vice Chancellor, Business and Administrative Services

I am pleased to announce that as a result of a national recruitment and search, Henry Salameh has accepted my offer for the position of Director of Physical Plant. I am confident that Henry will be an excellent addition to the Business and Administrative Services (BAS) team and the campus.  Henry joined UC Santa Cruz in 1998 and has served as Associate Director of Physical Plant while, most recently, also serving as Interim Director of Physical Plant.  Henry has been closely involved in many significant endeavors at UCSC, including substantial participation in energy conservation and sustainability efforts.  Prior to joining UCSC, Henry had a lengthy career in construction management in the private sector.  Henry is a graduate of San Jose State University.

I would like to thank the members of the search committee for their dedicated service. Members include:  Michelle Asire, Jeff Clothier, Karen Eckert, Geoff Girard, Patrick Goff, Jim Grove (staff), Patti McGill, Peter McMillan, Sue Matthews (chair), Bill Parro, Lacey Raak, and Wendy Wurster (staff). In addition, I am most grateful to all the campus constituents who took time out of their busy schedules to attend meetings with the finalists and provide valuable input to the process.

The Director of Physical Plant is responsible for the following units: Physical Plant Administration and Business Services, Building and Utility Services, Custodial Services, Grounds Services, Work Management, and Fleet Services. The Director of Physical Plant manages a staff of approximately 350, many of whom are represented by bargaining units, and directs the operation, maintenance and repair of the physical assets comprising the UCSC campus, including approximately 3,000,000 gross square feet of State-supported buildings, 3,000,000 gross square feet of Housing and other non-State supported activities, as well as Long Marine Lab and 500 landscaped acres.
