President Obama will award the National Medal of Science to UCSC astronomer Sandra Faber in a White House ceremony on Friday, February 1. A live webcast of the ceremony will begin at 11 a.m. Friday on the White House web site at www.whitehouse.gov/live.

Faber, a University Professor of astronomy and astrophysics at UC Santa Cruz and the interim director of UC Observatories, is among 12 recipients of the Medal of Science this year (see earlier story). Awarded annually, the National Medals of Science and Technology are the highest honors bestowed by the U.S. government on scientists and engineers.
