UCSC in the News

The San Jose Mercury News, Contra Costa Times, Monterey Herald, Santa Cruz Sentinel and KALW (Bay Area Public Radio News) featured a story about a UCSC film alumnus who has been hired by film director Spike Lee to design media for Mike Tyson’s solo Broadway show.

An article on Russian dachas in Etihad Inflight, the magazine of Etihad Airways, the national airline of the United Arab Emirates, featured extensive quotes by anthropology professor Melissa Caldwell, author of Dacha Idylls: Living Organically in Russia’s Countryside. The article's author is Jessica Gliddon, a 2004 UCSC graduate in modern literature. 

Scripps Howard News Service wrote about environmental factors involved in the spread of Lyme disease and included information about a study by UCSC environmental studies Ph.D. Taal Levi and colleagues that links an increase in Lyme disease to a decrease of red foxes.

Agence France Press and the Associated Press quoted Daniel Hirsch, a lecturer in nuclear policy at UCSC, in articles about the possible reopening for the San Onofre nuclear power plant where eroding steam generating tubes were found.  Articles appeared in the Washington Post, Chicago Tribune, Los Angeles Times, San Diego Tribune, CBS Marketwatch and on KPBS in San Diego.

The Good Times quoted Jonathan Fox, chair of the Latin American and Latino studies department, LALS assistant professor Shanon Gleeson, and student Carmen Macias in an article on local reaction to the president's decision to provide work permits to undocumented students.
