Scholarship Benefit Dinner to be held on February 25

To: UCSC Community

From: Chancellor Blumenthal

Please join us for UCSC’s ninth annual Scholarship Benefit Dinner. The dinner will be held on Saturday, February 25, 2012, from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Fairmont Hotel in San Jose.

Proceeds from the event go toward scholarships that provide opportunity and empower our students to take on the future.

This year's event features keynote speaker Susan Wojcicki (M.S. applied economics ‘93)—senior vice president of advertising at Google.

A key member of the Google startup team, Susan now leads the design, innovation and engineering of all of Google's advertising products—accounting for 96 percent of Google’s revenue.

The gala evening will also include a special tribute to alumnus Bill Dickinson (Cowell ‘68, philosophy)—founder of the Smith Renaissance Society at UCSC.

Dickinson will receive the UC Santa Cruz Foundation’s Fiat Lux award for his outstanding commitment to independent students at UCSC—those who are homeless, foster or runaway youths, orphans, or wards of the court.

Emmett D. Carson, chief executive officer of Silicon Valley Community Foundation, will serve as master of ceremonies for the dinner.

Scholarships for UCSC students are more important than ever before. Your gifts and support ensure that talented students with financial need will get the education necessary to become our next generation of innovators.

Faculty, staff, and community members are invited to attend. The cost of the dinner is $200 per ticket; a substantial portion of your ticket cost is a gift for UC Santa Cruz scholarships. Donor match opportunities are available.
