Seymour Center is supported by New Leaf Market program

New Leaf Markets support local environmental organizations through a rebate system for those shoppers who bring in their own reusable shopping bag.

Once a year, shoppers vote on which organizations will be supported for the next 12 months. The voting was just completed and the Seymour Marine Discovery Center at Long Marine Lab was selected as one of five local organizations to be supported beginning July 1.

Each time you shop at any New Leaf market and bring a reusable shopping bag the checker will provide you with a slip that can be put in one of five boxes at the exit. Each slip placed in Seymour box returns 10 cents to the center.

While that may not seem like a lot, the center's selection could provide several hundred dollars each month during the 2011-12 year — funds that help support our Marine Discovery Center.

If you shop at any of the New Leaf Markets, please consider taking your own shopping bag. Doing so is good for the environment — and can also help support marine education and conservation through our own Seymour Center.

Thank you.
