A profile of UC Santa Cruz astronomer Sandra Faber on public television station KTEH was honored with a Northern California Area Emmy Award in June. Faber was featured in an episode of the KQED/KTEH program "This is Us" that won the Emmy for outstanding achievement in a historic/cultural program or special.
In the program, Faber, a University Professor and chair of astronomy and astrophysics at UC Santa Cruz, discussed her work with the Hubble Space Telescope and research on galaxy formation. Faber has received many honors for her contributions to astronomy and cosmology, including the 2009 Bower Award and Prize for Achievement in Science. She is currently leading an ambitious survey that will use the Hubble Space Telescope to image more than 250,000 distant galaxies.
