Results from the 10-year Tagging of Pacific Predators study by professor of ecology and evolutionary biology Daniel Costa and colleagues attracted worldwide news coverage after their article appeared in the journal Nature. Articles appeared in the New York Times, Washington Post, San Francisco Chronicle, San Jose Mercury News, Santa Cruz Sentinel, Agence France Presse, the Oregonian, and Practical Fishkeeping (UK) among others.

The Santa Cruz Sentinel ran a feature story on the eighth annual Mandolin Symposium held this summer on campus, led by David Grisman and Mike Marshall, noting the draw of world class musicians to the UCSC music retreat. The Contra Costa Times also published a story about the weeklong symposium.

History professor emeritus Peter Kenez was featured in an extensive interview on KUSP public radio about his life growing up Jewish in Nazi- and then Soviet-controlled Hungary, fleeing Hungary, and starting a new life in the U.S.; Kenez also discussed his book-in-progress on the Holocaust
