CLASS survey

To: UCSC Faculty

From: Campus Provost/Executive Vice Chancellor Alison Galloway

Last spring, our undergraduate students took the initiative to survey their peers about class availability and the effects of the budget crisis on the quality of undergraduate education. The information they compiled was compared with the administration's own analysis of undergraduate curriculum capacity as we worked with deans to provide temporary bridge funding for 2010-11.

Our students have now worked with student leaders at other UC campuses to launch an expanded online survey for all UC undergraduates. The new questionnaire also asks students whether issues with class availability could impact their progress toward graduation and, if so, by how many quarters and why.

The Class and Lecture Availability Student Survey (CLASS) is available online and runs through February 20.

I would like to encourage you to mention this student-initiated, student-organized, and student-run universitywide survey in your courses.

Thank you.
