A rare manzanita plant added to the Arboretum's collection garnered headlines in the San Jose Mercury News, Contra Costa Times, and Santa Cruz Sentinel, with Chancellor George Blumenthal, Arboretum staff Stephen McCabe and Rick Flores, and students Mike Vasey and Jared Marchese featured in the stories, and McCabe was interviewed on KGO Radio.
