Winter Campus Curtailment 2010-2011

To: UCSC Academic and Staff Employees

From: Charlotte Moreno, Assistant Vice Chancellor, Staff Human Resources;Pamela Peterson, Assistant Vice Chancellor, Academic Personnel

Our 2010-2011 Winter Campus Curtailment is scheduled for the time period of December 23, 2010 through January 2, 2011.

  • December 24, 27, 30, and 31 are paid university holidays
  • December 23, 28, and 29 are not paid university holidays

These curtailment days may result in employees using vacation, accrued compensatory time off, or leave without pay for December 23, 28, and 29, 2010. For employees who may not have sufficient accumulated vacation, up to three (3) days of vacation leave may be used in advance of actual accruals during the campus curtailment period. In addition, those employees normally required to wait six (6) months before using accrued vacation will be allowed to use their vacation even if the required waiting period has not been completed.

Due to the diverse responsibilities of academic appointees and the flexibility in performing their obligations, it is anticipated that some academic appointees will continue working during campus closure.

Units planning to maintain operations as usual during any time of the winter curtailment must receive approval from their respective Principal Officers or designee and should refer to the “Exceptions to Campus Closure” memo that will be forthcoming in November. This memo will explain the required procedure to ensure that heat is supplied to appropriate working areas.
