Informational sessions on the NRC analysis

To: UCSC faculty, deans, department managers, and graduate directors

From: Herbie Lee, interim vice provost for academic affairs

Now that the National Research Council (NRC) has released its report on doctoral programs in the United States, we know there are a lot of questions.  The campus will host two informational sessions to discuss the NRC data and analysis, beginning with a presentation on the council's methodology and some of the results, followed by questions and answers.

We encourage you to attend one of the sessions to learn more about the NRC analysis. The scheduled sessions will take place Monday, October 18, from 11 a.m.-12:30 p.m., in Kresge Seminar Room 159. The second session will take place Tuesday, October 26, from noon to 1:30 p.m. in the Charles E. Merrill Lounge.

We will post our presentation and supplementary materials in advance of sessions. Materials should be available by 4 p.m. on Friday, October 15, at http://planning.ucsc.edu/irps/2010NRC.asp.
