The New York Times reported the appointment of Nicholas Meriwether as the library's new archivist for the Grateful Dead Archive. Stories also ran on the front page of the Santa Cruz Sentinel and in the San Jose Mercury News. The Atlantic magazine's web site also ran a short piece titled "Meet the Grateful Dead Archivist," noting that Meriwether was the perfect choice for the position.

London's the Guardian Weekly ran a story about how musicians such as the Grateful Dead are true web visionaries, quoting the March Atlantic magazine feature about UCSC's Grateful Dead Archive by Joshua Green about how the band pioneered practices that are now being reluctantly embraced by corporate America.

The San Jose Mercury News ran a story about Shakespeare Santa Cruz artistic director Marco Barricelli, who is co-starring with Olympia Dukakis in The Vigil at American Conservatory Theater.

The Santa Cruz Sentinel wrote a front-page story on potential community access to a high-speed fiber optic cable UC Santa Cruz paid to extend from Silicon Valley to campus and beyond.

Associate professor of history Alan Christy was quoted in the Desert Sun for an article about The Pacific, a 10-part miniseries on HBO about World War II's Pacific theater.

UC Santa Cruz Dining's recent Meatless Dining Day was featured in the winter/spring 2010 Trends in Higher Education Foodservice Newsletter. The trend toward meatless choices is part of Dining's effort to further its sustainability goals.
