MEDIA ADVISORY: UC provost to visit UCSC to discuss state and UC budget issues, UC initiatives

You are invited to cover a session that has been scheduled for student reporters.

What:

A scheduled opportunity for student reporters to meet with Lawrence H. Pitts, interim provost and executive vice president for academic affairs of the ten-campus UC system. Provost Pitts will discuss UC budget challenges and UC initiatives.

When:

Tuesday, January 26, from 3 to 3:30 p.m.

Background on meeting:

Provost Pitts is visiting UC campuses in order to provide updates on the state budget and UC's budget update, and to discuss UC initiatives that are under way to mitigate the impact of budget cuts and to plan for the future of the 10-campus system.

During his visit to UC Santa Cruz, which will include meetings with faculty and student leaders and members of the senior administration, he will solicit input about ideas UC people have to preserve UC's quality and student access to that quality.

At the session planned for student reporters, he will be available to discuss topics raised in those sessions.

The University of California Board of Regents last February confirmed UC President Mark G. Yudof's appointment of UC professor emeritus Lawrence H. Pitts, M.D., as interim provost and executive vice president for academic affairs of the UC system. [UC Announcement]
