Student protest impacts campus transportation

Thursday, November 19

4:30 pm: There are currently no transportation restrictions that would impact the ability of students, staff, faculty, and visitors to enter or exit the campus.

Wednesday, November 18

4:30 pm: Traffic is getting through the main entrance in both directions. Traffic is still restricted at the West Entrance. People leaving campus are encouraged to use the main entrance.

3:15 pm: Traffic is not able to enter the campus at either entrance, although reports from the West Entrance indicate that people picking up children at the child care center at Family Student Housing are being let through. Metro buses are currently not traveling on campus. The campus shuttle system is operating on campus and is taking people to the main entrance.

3 pm: Traffic is highly congested at the West Entrance to campus. People leaving campus are encouraged to use the main entrance.

2:45 pm: Protesters are currently gathered at both campus entrances, and incoming traffic is restricted at both entrances. Vehicles leaving campus are currently able to get out through either entrance. Please check back for updates.

1:30 pm: The protesters are now marching in the intersection of Bay and High Streets. UCSC Police are diverting traffic away from the main entrance. If you need to travel to or from campus at this time, please use the West Entrance.

1 pm: Approximately 300 students gathered at noon today at Quarry Plaza to protest the student fee proposal currently before the UC Board of Regents. As of this time, the group has begun marching down Hagar Drive toward the main entrance of the campus. If you need to travel to or from campus, please drive with extra caution and consider using the West Entrance.
