Fall Move-in Activities for Students

To: UCSC Campus Community

From: Felicia McGinty, Vice Chancellor, Student Affairs

Beginning Thursday, September 17 through Sunday, September 20, the campus is pleased to welcome the Class of 2013. About 7,000 new and returning students will be moving in to on- and off-campus residential housing throughout move in weekend, a campus-wide effort to welcome students, families, and friends and help students get the new academic year off to a great start.

Parking, transportation, and traffic patterns will be altered during move in weekend. Some roads will be converted to one-way traffic, and drivers may experience some delays. Parking in most college lots, the East Field House, and in the North and West Remote lots will be reserved to accommodate students and their families. Alternate parking areas will be posted and available to commuting faculty and staff. Parking will also be available in the Barn Theater, and additional shuttle service will be provided. As with other high-impact times for the campus, you are encouraged to use alternative transportation whenever possible to reduce the number of cars traveling on surrounding city streets as well as the campus.

Welcome Week begins on September 17 and offers a variety of activities and events for students. In addition, all students, faculty, and staff are invited to the annual UCSC Boardwalk Frolic on September 22. Buy tickets online from the Bay Tree Bookstore at http://slugstore.ucsc.edu or call (831) 459-4544 for more information.

Move in weekend and the start of a new academic year is an exciting time for our students and families. I encourage you to be friendly, answer questions, and help students settle into our community. Please join me in welcoming everyone to campus and helping to make students' move in a positive, memorable experience.
