September 4 update from Campus Provost/EVC Kliger

To: UCSC Staff and Faculty

From: EVC/Campus Provost Kliger

Now that we have received guidance from the UC Office of the President on pay reductions and furloughs, we are intensively developing implementation plans for our campus.

Several complex issues, some of which may require further guidance from the Office of the President, remain to be worked out. Our goal is to have as many operational guidelines as possible in place prior to the beginning of the fall academic quarter. We will provide ongoing updates on these details over the next few weeks. The Office of the President has created a web page with information on resources available to faculty and staff to assist you through the furlough/salary reduction period.

I know there are mixed feelings about some of the furlough guidelines that have been established by UCOP. My hope is that we will collectively focus on serving our students and each other in the best manner possible, given resource constraints and workload limitations, rather than focus on past decisions that we wish were different. Patience and perspective will be vitally important as we learn to cope with reduced service levels.

Check the campus budget update page for the latest information and answers to frequently asked questions.

I hope you enjoy a restful Labor Day weekend.
