To: UCSC Community

From: Chancellor Blumenthal and Campus Provost/EVC Kliger

We are pleased to announce that the UC Regents voted unanimously to approve the appointment of David Yager as Dean of the Arts Division. The appointment takes effect July 1.

Dr. Yager currently serves as Distinguished Professor and Wilson Elkins Professor of Visual Arts at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County, where he is also founder and executive director of the Center for Art, Design and Visual Culture, founder and director of the Innovation and Design Lab, and founder of the Imaging Research Center. He has over 25 years of experience as a practitioner, academician, academic administrator, and visionary of the arts. He has a successful track record of building and nurturing new graduate and undergraduate programs as well as successfully collaborating with campus and community partners.

We want to thank Acting Dean David Evan Jones for his outstanding leadership, and Professor Carolyn Dean for her stellar service as associate dean and for serving as acting dean last summer.

We also want to extend our sincere thanks to the search committee members for diligently and patiently identifying and evaluating an impressive list of potential candidates, and providing an excellent slate of finalists for our collective consideration.
