UCSC Athletic Department's 6th Annual Slug Golf Scramble

To: UCSC Community

From: Cori Houston, Tournament Coordinator Office of Physical Education, Recreation & Sports (OPERS)

The UC Santa Cruz Athletic Department is pleased to announce the 6th Annual Slug Golf Scramble on Friday, June 5th, at DeLaveaga Golf Course in Santa Cruz, CA. This golf tournament is a fundraiser for NCAA Division III Women's Sports at UCSC, and proceeds are shared among all the teams. This infusion of additional dollars to their operating budget assists in meeting financial compliance with Title IX. As a result, men's sports can continue to add new dollars to their operating budget without impacting our ability to comply with this federal law. Funds raised also enhance the opportunity for women's teams to qualify for a bid to post-season play, and help to elevate our program on many levels. Now in its sixth year, this event is known for its fun, relaxed atmosphere using the Best Ball "Scramble" format where everyone is welcome and golfers of all levels can participate. There are games and contests with a wide range of fantastic prizes donated by local businesses, corporations, individuals, and various departments at UCSC. The tournament is staffed by student-athlete volunteers from the women's teams, which makes it especially rewarding for the golfers, who meet the athletes they are supporting.

The day concludes with a BBQ dinner provided by UCSC Dining Services in the DeLaveaga BBQ area. There is a live auction of unique items such as a framed Pasatiempo pin flag autographed by Juli Inkster, a local Santa Cruzan who is now a professional golfer on the LPGA Tour and member of the Hall of Fame. If you cannot make it to the event but are interested in an item, there will be an opportunity to submit a bid prior to the event. Please check our web site for updates. During dinner, prizes will be given out, and two awards will be presented: one to a senior female student-athlete for accomplishment in academics, athletics, and community service during her tenure at UCSC, and one to acknowledge an alumna athlete.

The registration fee of $160 per person includes green fees, cart, box lunch, BBQ dinner, beverages, and prizes. If you sign up by April 30th, the early-bird price is $135. To download a registration form, go to the UCSC Athletics Department web site at http://www.goslugs.com/info/scramble or contact Cori Houston and a form can be sent to you. Online registration is not available. If you are interested being a sponsor, purchasing a tee-hole sign, or donating a prize, please contact Kathy Rouhier, Student Affairs Development Office, 459-1792, kathyr@ucsc.edu.
