Recreation classes offered in leadership, communications

UCSC Recreation is presenting a series of classes on outdoor trip leadership, a course on defensive driving, and another on effective communication and conflict resolution. To sign up, go to www.ucscrecreation.com.

Leadership Seminar

These four high-energy evening sessions will introduce trip planning, tone-setting, and group management. Leaders will learn to develop checklists and strategies for successful logistics and management of outdoor trips. At the end of the seminar, you'll be well on the road to being effective, dynamic leaders aware of logistical procedures and a sense of the big picture.

Defensive Driving

The most dangerous part of our day is when we get into our cars. Over time, though, we develop a relaxed attitude about driving and roadway safety. This course will aid you in developing good driving habits, share some information about driving safety, and help participants learn to handle dangerous driving scenarios.

Effective Communication & Conflict Resolution Skills

Bring your conflict and communication challenges and learn how to transform your relationships and your life with the skills of nonviolent communication (NVC). More than just a conflict resolution tool, NVC supports the creation of new systems and structures that can become the foundation of a world where everyone's needs matter.

Instructor: Christine King is a certified trainer with the international Center for Nonviolent Communication and holds a graduate degree from the Graduate Institute of International Studies. She teaches facilitation, mediation, and communication skills in schools, jails, universities, churches, and privately.
