UCSC in the News

UCSC in the News is a weekly column summarizing prominent media placements UCSC faculty, staff, and students have received.

Economist Michael Hutchison was featured in a lengthy Q&A that appeared in the Santa Cruz Sentinel. Hutchison discussed the subprime mortgage crisis and explained the interconnections between the global economy and the U.S. economy. The article was subsequently reprinted in the Santa Cruz Record, the region's weekly legal and business newspaper.

Also in economics, a Seattle Post-Intelligencer writer cited Mike Dooley's work in a column about the future of the U.S. dollar.

A critic from England's Classical Guitar Magazine reviewed music lecturer Mesut Ozgen's multimedia concert DVD, New Dimensions in Classical Guitar, calling it "the finest music DVD ever to have come my way."

Lora Bartlett of education appeared on KUSP's Talk of the Bay program to discuss the phenomenon of school districts across the state hiring teachers from the Philippines and other countries. Bartlett was also interviewed by KZSZ Radio about budget cuts in education.

The Charleston Post and Courier ran a feature story about history of consciousness professor Angela Davis, who spoke at the College of Charleston about women, race and capitalism.
