Death of UCSC Student, Efrain Sanchez

To: UCSC Community

From: Felicia McGinty, Vice Chancellor of Student Affairs

I am very sorry to inform you that one of our students, Efrain Sanchez Jr., died in his on-campus residence late last week.

A first-year student at College Ten, Efrain came to us from the Southern California community of Arleta. Efrain was a 20 year old junior who transferred to UCSC from Los Angeles Pierce College, and had decided to major in psychology.

Although he had been on campus for just one-half of an academic year, Efrain made a very positive impression on his fellow students at College Ten and elsewhere on campus. Many of them have spoken in recent days about his kindness and ability to bring together people from diverse backgrounds.

Please join me in expressing our very deepest condolences to Efrain's parents and other family members, and to his many friends on and off campus. This has been a very difficult time for our community; anyone desiring assistance in coping with this tragic loss is urged to contact the Counseling and Psychological Services at 9-2628.
