Counseling and Psychological services available

To: UCSC Faculty and Staff

From: Counseling and Psychological Services

We want to take this opportunity to tell you about the services available to the UCSC community through Counseling & Psychological Services (CPS). As faculty and staff who work closely with students, you may have occasion to make referrals to our services. In addition, there may be times when you have concerns about a student and want to consult with a CPS staff member.

CPS provides UCSC students with a wide range of mental health services, including short-term individual and couples counseling, group counseling, crisis assessment and intervention, and referral services. Counseling services are confidential and available free of charge to all registered UCSC students. In order for a student to schedule a first appointment, they must go to or call the CPS Central Office at the Cowell Student Health Center Building. Students will be informed about the location of their therapist when the appointment is scheduled. For more urgent matters or if a student is in crisis, we offer a crisis service at the Cowell Student Health Center building. You can call the Central Office at 459-2628 or refer to our web page http://www2.ucsc.edu/counsel for additional information about these and other services.

As a staff or faculty member, CPS can offer you assistance if you have a concern about a distressed student. Please see the http://www2.ucsc.edu/counsel/info_faq_staff_guide.html link for on-line information about suggestions on how to assist a student in distress. You are also welcome to call our central office at (831) 459-2628 for consultation from a CPS and staff member.
