UCSC spotlighted in higher ed sustainability web site

UC Santa Cruz is the spotlight campus on the web site of the Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education (AASHE). The site has a photo of students walking over a campus bridge among the redwoods, followed by the following text:

"University of California, Santa Cruz is our current spotlight campus! All new buildings at UCSC are built to LEED Silver standards and the dining halls purchase local, organic, and socially-just produce. Student fees enable the campus to use 100% renewable energy, and also support the student-run Education for Sustainable Living course."

AASHE has a free weekly e-newsletter called the AASHE Bulletin, which delivers the latest campus sustainability news, resources, opportunities, and events from the U.S. and Canada. Two items in the April 19 issue of the AASHE Bulletin are about UCSC--the campus being named an EPA Green Power Challenge Champion (see Currents story), and the student survey of campus water use now under way (see Currents story).
