To: UCSC Community

From: Acting Chancellor Blumenthal

The campus has learned that Tsuyoshi Goka, a member of UCSC's University Affiliated Research Center (UARC), died late last week from a stroke. A UCSC employee since December 2003, Tsuyoshi was a senior researcher with the UARC at NASA Ames Research Center at Moffett Field. He was 63.

Tsuyoshi had a long and distinguished career that spanned 40 years. He worked in the fields of aerospace research, aircraft and spacecraft navigation, and air traffic control research.

Tsuyoshi is survived by wife, Margaret; and three daughters, Kate, Betsey, and Robin.

A memorial service will take place this afternoon, starting at 2 p.m. at the San Jose Buddhist temple. The temple is located at 640 North 5th Street.

Please join me in extending our deepest condolences to Margaret, other family members, and to Tsuyoshi's many UARC colleagues.
