Student Employee Recognition Award Program (SERAP) 2007

To: UCSC Faculty and Staff

From: Barbara Bedford, Director, Career Center

The Career Center is pleased to announce that campus supervisors will once again have an opportunity to publicly reward and recognize their outstanding student employees who continue to dedicate their abundant talent and skills to UCSC. The 13th annual UCSC Student Employee Recognition Award Program outdoor reception and ceremony is scheduled for Friday, May 11, from 3 to 5 p.m., at the Oakes lower field. Refreshments will be served. Supervisors of outstanding student employee award recipients are invited to attend this upcoming event along with their student employee(s).

The purpose of the award ceremony is to provide UCSC's top student workers with a cash award that may range from a minimum of $100 to a maximum of $2,000. Students receive a certificate of appreciation signed by the UCSC Chancellor, the Vice Chancellor of Student Affairs, and the Career Center Director and an official public recognition of their excellent service to the university. These honored student employees will also receive a written acknowledgment of their excellent service to the university.

This award gives the opportunity to student employees to note this achievement on their resume and will provide them with a well-earned advantage as they seek future employment. Discretion should be used when selecting student nominees. This award is only for those students who have demonstrated exemplary work performance in accordance with award program criteria. Please review the eligibility criteria prior to making your decision to nominate a student.

It is important to note that eligible student employees must be in good academic standing. It is best not to inform your student nominee of their nomination until their academic status is confirmed. Upon receipt of the unit's nomination form, the Career Center will verify the student's academic status and inform the supervisor if the student is ineligible to participate. In order to minimize the processing associated with the Certificate of Appreciation, nomination forms should reflect the legal name of each student nominee.

Divisions/units have the option of participating in the SERAP program. Please confirm with your division/unit if you may nominate student employees. Detailed instructions on how to request a SERAP award for your student(s) can be found at:

Deadline to nominate students is April 6, 2007.

I encourage you to take advantage of this excellent opportunity to recognize those students whom you believe meet SERAP eligibility criteria. More details regarding SERAP are on the web.
