Class of 2003's commencement exercises begin Friday, June 13

UCSC's commencement exercises will be held this year on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, June 13-15. Approximately 2,000 (2,009) students are candidates this spring for bachelor of arts, music, or science degrees. Also this spring, 116 students are eligible to receive master of arts or science degrees, and 54 students are candidates for doctorates. A small number of students will receive graduate certificates. In addition, a number of celebrations, beginning June 12, are also planned to honor graduates.

A number of graduation celebrations, the first of which starts a day earlier, are also planned
(In the two prior quarters of the current academic year, many other UCSC students earned undergraduate or graduate degrees: 916 undergraduates earned bachelor's degrees at the end of the fall or winter quarters, 59 students earned master's degrees, and 40 students earned Ph.D.s.)

Nine of UCSC's ten colleges will hold commencement exercises next month; College Ten, the newest college, will hold its first commencement next spring. The Graduate Division and Jack Baskin School of Engineering will also host commencement exercises.

Midway through the upcoming summer, UCSC's Department of Education will also hold commencement exercises for approximately 122 students who will be awarded master of arts degrees. That ceremony will take place on July 18 at 11 a.m. in the Upper Quarry Amphitheater. (An undetermined number of other UCSC students will also complete their work toward degrees this summer, in the academic year's fourth quarter.)
