K7 Agreement Ratified

To: UC Santa Cruz Campus Community

From: Kamala Green, Associate Vice Chancellor for Staff Human Resources and Chief Human Resources Officer

Dear Campus Community members,

The American Federation of State, County, and Municipal Employees’s (AFSCME) Skilled Crafts (K7) employees have ratified a new contract with the University of California on May 3, 2024.

The bargaining agreement covers approximately 60 employees at UC Santa Cruz in positions such as Electrician, Plumber, Carpenter and HVAC Mechanic.

Under the new agreement, K7 members will see:

  • A wage increase package that contains a base-building increase of 8% in the first year (5% upon ratification and 3% in October 2024), and a 5% increase in the remaining 3 years of the contract (2025, 2026, 2027).
  • Shift Differentials increased to an average of $2.50 per hour.
  • “Me too” language for Vacation, Sick Leave, Health Benefits, and Parking articles matching whatever is ultimately negotiated for the Service Unit (SX) Contract.
  • Updated language to the Apprenticeship, Hiring, Holidays, Hours of Work, and Leaves articles.

This new contract was reached after many discussions and good-faith negotiations between both sides and reflects the university’s commitment to fair and equitable treatment of our valued employees and labor partners. We look forward to continued cooperation and a productive working relationship with AFSCME as we move forward together.

Sincerely,

Kamala
